I am leaning toward Obama more and more each day. (Much contemplation and many sleepless nights went into this decision!)
I personally think that they're both terrible, I'm not voting for that reason.
I think not voting is a cop out. Like PA School :-)
I am still undecided! I got our voter pamphlet in the mail today and guess who is running for governor of Utah..."Superdell" and that is the name he actually used. Direct quote from his statement "If you are unsure (of who to vote for) then fill your heart with love, completely open your mind and pray to God earnestly. You can't afford to get this wrong and will be held accountable for your choice." Seriously!? This guy is wiggity-wacked! I am all for the love of God, but seriously!?

As for me, I do not pretend to know anything about politics...but based on jawline alone, I am voting for Obama....McCain just looks weird!

OBAMA is the future! We've been watching CNN for the last six months straight - let's get on with this election already and all the bullshit that follows it and start making some progress already! My 401K is evaporating, the war is still lingering costing us trillions in resources, every country that used to consider us an ally wants to throw poo across the ocean at us, the environment is at an all time record low while gas is at an all time high and all the debates focus on is tax policy and negative campaign ads? Serioiusly? McCain is George Bush with less hair and yellower teeth and the same tired old policies. Obama for change 2008 - enough said!

Carly, I couldn't disagree with you more....my love!!!!! Acording to me, Glen Beck, and of course Bill O'Reilly - Obama=socialism. America was NOT founded on government sticking it's nose into every aspect of our lives. By taking a stand for McCain I feel a little like Elizebeth Hasslebeck on the left-wing show "The view" Not the popular opinion..but the RIGHT one! luv your guts!
hmmmm, Once again...I do not pretend to know anything about politics besides what I see at the gym on CNN, and Fox News while running on the treadmill, and what I saw in the debates. But honestly Obama just made more sense to me. I heard nothing of socialism....just new ideas, because obviously the old ones aren't working. I am for a change of ideas, not revamping all the old ones.
p.s. this type of healthy debate is what I miss most about bookclub! Good post Elena!
Something I noticed when watching the debates, especialy the last one, was that Obama was very clear on his policies and ideas and wanted to discuss the issues at hand. I felt like McCain was defensive and delivering personal attacks instead of discussing the burning issues at hand. While I am fundamentaly republican, I can't help but think Obama is the best candidate. PS Palin was the nail in the coffin. RIP!
PS I love USATODAY.COM for candidate reseach. Their fact checker is awesome. Check the rumors and base your vote on fact, not accusation.

PS-I really like Palin...based on fact...not based on how the media has tried to spin her 'inexperience' Because she was 'only' a Gov'ner. Would the media like her better if she spent a few years as a community organizer and then was a Senator for a few?

it honestly makes me sick to my stomach that this is going on in america. it sounds like some sick nazi experiment. that is the main reason i will be voting for mccain.
the thing about obama is that he seems very weak to me. he doesn't personally believe in abortion or gay marriage or this or that but he says that he also isn't going to do anything about them. i have to agree with rachel he has socialist views. socialism doesn't work. on another note can i please be added to the email list? i never know when bookclub is now that bridgette is gone.

Jackie... I agree. I am not thrilled about McCain by any means. I wish we could start over the whole process with new choices! I cannot personally vote for someone who would be in support of partial birth abortions. I am concerned about Obama's somewhat socialistic ideas and his "trying to please everyone-sitting on the middle of the fence." I would love to see change is many areas, but I am not willing to sacrifice my core values to see them happen.

As jackie said, I cannot believe that this repulsive horror can happen in America.
I think it's interesting that people seem to think that electing a democrat, because a republican is currently in office, is the answer to our economy, the war, healthcare, taxes etc. I am not Bush's biggest fan, but he is not, nor is the Republican party, solely responsible for our country's current conditions. The financial crisis was longer than 8 years in the making and was not caused by George Bush, going to war was not ONLY his decision, and universal healthcare and "spreading the wealth" WILL NOT make everyone's life better.
I am a republican on two fundamental points, abortion and welfare, and will be voting as such. I believe that we should be accountable for our lives and our choices. If you choose to have sex, you should be prepared for pregnancy. And I feel fine about helping those less fortunate by giving them a leg up for a while, but giving people money (or free healthcare) does not help or motivate them, it enables them.
I would like to see Obama get elected (along with a democratic congress) so that everyone will see that life is not going to be sunshine and lollipops just because the democrats are in power again.
We're in this swamp of crap because politicians from both sides spew bullshit all day long. I believe the answer lies somewhere in the middle. Both sides have good ideas, it's about finding a solution and a way of doing things together. That's why there are two sides, so that everyone can add their best pieces to make a solid, well-balanced whole.
Fighting against each other for the sake of the argument is what put us where we are today.
